West Park Recreation Center, 615 W Park Ave, Oakhurst, NJ 07755

The Museum’s Speakers Series  is back in person with two events at a new venue, the West Park Recreation Center next to the community pool at 615 West Park Ave.

7:15 pm, Wednesday August 17
Lost  Monmouth County

Our first speaker, Randall Gabrielan hares the highlights of his new book Lost Monmouth County. It contains over 60 narratives on places throughout the county that have disappeared or been extensively changed—including some surprises and others well remembered by our audience. Nostalgia is mixed with significant history.

Randy, a prolific author and acknowledged
authority on the history of our region, has researched a carefully curated selection of subjects. He's selected what struck him as significant as well as stories that needed correction or amplification. The book's cover is a fine example: The c.1960s remnants of a Long Branch shore-front housing colonybuilt by Nate Salsbury, the promotor of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. Its history is rife with rumor and half-truths, which Randy sets out to set straight. The stories of Wall Township’s Circus Drive-in, the thoroughbred horse farms of Lincroft, and 19th century opera houses in Asbury Park and Red Bank areamong the fascinating narratives.

Lost Monmouth County will be on sale at the August 17 Speakers Event.
